Congratulations on your Challenge win! An impressionist painter would struggle to create such a Masterpiece! :))

Thanks! Come to think of it, an impressionist painter would struggle... and for a photog, all it takes is a camera falling down the stairs! :)

Thanks! Takes some special circumstances, though. That's why it does not happen very often maybe... :)

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was made along the shore of Lake Ohrid, for the record if nothing else... But if I'm concentrated, I can repeat this anywhere.

Time

Date/Time of the original was 13-Nov-16 07:58:35... not that it changes a thing... I can botch a photo every day and 24/7 if need be... :)

Lighting

Just in case anyone would like to repeat this work of art: Shutter Speed: 1/125 s; F-Number: f/5; ISO: 180; 0.00 eV; Metering Mode: Pattern; Flash Off, Did not fire; Focal Length: 71.7 mm; White Balance Details: Auto1... Now you're ready!

Equipment

A Nikon model COOLPIX P610 only, and of course shot out of hand, swinging wildly to keep the bird in the frame. Maybe next time...

Inspiration

I did want to photograph this beautiful Egret, or that was my motivation. And then the trees flew in and damaged what could have been an Award-winning shot... Oh, wait... It did actually win an Award! Which does add an incredible boost to my self-confidence, and I know I can do it again!

Editing

The post process was uncannily simple. I just resized the photo for upload to Viewbug - it was horrible enough straight out of camera!

In my camera bag

A standard question here gets a standard answer! But then, maybe I should have used a photo bag for this one shot, simply by just having kept my camera in there, instead of insisting on creation of this disasterpiece. OK, seriously now... I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip, while my photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one photo clamp standing in for a tripod. Recently I include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest also has large-lens pockets that contain a small water bottle, sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. My smartphone comes along too. It has yet another spare camera, but more importantly the Spirit Level App wich I use to make the phone a perfectly horizontal surface under my camera. This is essential for panoramic sweeps. The app is free, and requires no extra permissions whatsoever. The large back pocket of the vest is reserved for a lightweight rain poncho. If the weather suddenly plays up, the poncho neatly covers all. Using the tools mentioned above, much can be improvised along the way, so that's all I need to make photos.

Feedback

It's easy. Set your camera to burst or a short-lag timelapse, then activate the camera. Grab the shoulder strap and swing the camera around your head, making sure it covers all spatial 360 degrees. Then go and pick the best of the worst photos on the memory card. Enter the adequate Contest or a Challenge and win! Don't forget to have lots of Good Luck, or you'll never surpass this work!
