This new fish I have met in Lake Ohrid seems to belong to the order of Cichliformes, looking a lot like Umbrella cichlid (Apistogramma borellii), but I am not sure...

It is also somewhat alarming, since it is definitely not autochtonous to this lake, and I presume it came from someone's aquarium - intentionally or by mistake, but uncontrolled introduction of foreign sorts can at times wreak havoc among local fish population.

Wikipedia: "The cichlids comprise a large family of freshwater fishes that live in tropical and subtropical waters of Africa, Central and South America, as well as parts of Jordan, Iran, India and Sri Lanka. Most cichlid species are found in three large lakes in East Africa: Lake Malawi, Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika"...

UPDATE: I asked a fisherman friend and he says this fish is known to him, as these can be found in several other lakes in Macedonia. People call them "soncevka" (pron. son-chave-kah), which translates to EN as sunfish.

I still think these came originally from some aquarium...

They are quite colourful, we have them here too calling them sunfish, bluegill or pumpkin seeds . SO similar names to what you mention. Here these inhabitant shallow weedy areas and are usually in small schools .

This is the first and only one I have seen in the Lake, although the fishermen have noticed them in other lakes. Next two or three days I've searched for it again; could not find it. But then, there are eels hunting during the night, or maybe some bigger fish has eaten it already... Who can tell...
