Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was made in Jarun, a place in Zagreb (Croatia) where there is a beautiful artificial lake and a picnic park ground. The members of the web-site named Pticica (which means "little bird") used to meet there occasionally, arranging some grill & photo meets. The prevalent themes were, of course, photographic - but in no way restricted to that. Nice old times... :)

Time

Date/Time of the original photo was 20-Sep-2008 at 11:06:45.

Lighting

Nothing revolutionary. The mostly automatic camera has chosen the following elements: Shutter Speed: 1/40 sec, f/3.5, ISO 80, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode: Pattern, Flash: Fired, and Focal Length: 6.7 mm

Equipment

The camera was a nifty small Olympus mju 725SW, that I loved a lot, since it was pocketable and also waterproof to some depth; one of my first digital underwater cameras. It produced very nice SOOC photos. Later when I got me another Olympus model, I gave it to a friend...

Inspiration

Well, the occasion being the meeting of photogs, many images were made during the whole day, and with many different cameras. So this one is just one of those many shots featuring photographers in the role of models!

Editing

I only decided to crop the image someewhat tighter, nothing else.

In my camera bag

For decades already I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. It is more than enough to take along whatever I want or need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually stay home or in the car, to keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The tripod has its permanent place in the car. My vest pockets usually contain two cameras. Regardless of which is the "main" camera, one of those is always some waterproof model, if the weather plays up or when I find something interesting in the shallows. Nowadays I usually use Nikon P900 or Sony RX100m7, and the waterproof backup is an Olympus TG-2 or a Paralenz DiveCam. Other vest pockets keep the spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small camera clamp which can be fixed to almost anything. In many cases this can replace a tripod. The vest has deep pockets for longer lenses, and these usually hold a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate - if I plan on being out for the whole day. I always pack about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. Much can be improvised with these if need be. Recently I made it even easier, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch; one variable-volume McKinley. In the Outdoors, simplicity and comfort are my most important requirements!

Feedback

I hope you too have a circle of photographers you frequent, especially if it happpens in some nice spot, preferably outdoors! Some grill logistics and refreshments can also be scared up; to relax the atmosphere. Everybody meets new people and take lots of photos. The time and place best be arranged well in advance, and everyone should be invited to bring along whatever their ideas for the grilled meal may be, also some cakes and some refreshing drinks (make these soft, mainly for folks which will have to drive home later!). These things easily become traditional!
