CONTESTS and CHALLENGES are many and various. Let me offer some suggestions that might be useful to both the creators and submitters.
Please read on...

Contests, Challenges and other competitive games are fun only as long as these are played seriously. We are being asked to respond to certain themes in a certain way. Submitting off-topic photos to any Challenge reveals photographic incompetence and - or lack of understanding what it's all about. We should respect the requirements of any competition if we want to be regarded as photographers and not just pretenders. The difference is all too easily visible!

CHALLENGE SUBMITTERS,

...please READ and FOLLOW the Theme and Requirements as concisely and carefully as you can. If you DO NOT HAVE adequate photos, simply DO NOT SUBMIT. There are other competitions where you will be able to play along.

... do not submit partially adequate photos. ALL requirements have to be respected! If it asks for Black-and-White, DO NOT submit Monochrome or Color photos. If it asks for Landscapes, DO NOT submit Close-ups and Macros. If it requires Red DO NOT submit Yellow.

... if you do not understand the theme or requirements, ASK the competition creator for clarification BEFORE submitting your work. You can always google for some unclear term, or look it up in Wikipedia. It is way better than being disqualified for irresponsibility - or worse, incompetence. Not nice.

CHALLENGE CREATORS,

... PLEASE form simple and clear Challlenges by using PROPER photo terminology! Do not "invent" your terms; use the established ones. There are newbies here and folks which still grapple with English, so make it easy for them too. WHEN IN DOUBT, ASK!

... be ready to explain the purpose of your Theme to anyone who asks about it (like in a direct message, where there is more space to do it). The idea is to have many people competing, but only those which have clearly understood the requirements. But then...

... DO NOT ALLOW any non-compliant entries to compete! Insist on ALL requirements to be respected, and DELETE inadequate entries. Deletion is possible when you hover the cursor on any submitted photo. An X appears in the upper right corner of the photo and clicking on it will remove the entry from the Challenge.
If you think it is not nice, remember it has a twofold purpose. Firstly, it is FAIR to the entrants responsible enough to submit the compliant images! And then, the "spammers" might learn that dropping just any image anywhere does not pay. Because it is way past high time they've learned to behave!

Thanks for having the patience to read this. I wish every photographer would follow these suggestions, as it also helps the new folks to learn, and maybe realize that photography is much, much more than click-and-post!
