This image was shot at my home studio in Kingston, JamaicaTime
March 9th, 2020 at 12 noon. It was a studio setup with control of my own lighting so ambient light wasn't a factor.Lighting
This was a 3 point light setup. Two strip box with grid on either side of the model powered at 1/16 with color gels and one octagon with grid powered at 1/8 slightly above the model.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark iv shutter at 1/200 and ISO 400, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L with an aperture of f/6.3, one FlashPoint XPlor 600 and two off market L400 studio flash.Inspiration
This shot was an inspired idea from the model. I am not sure where she saw it but I always tweak anything I see or given to me. So I added the Afro wig and color gels to get the right mood for the shoot. The makeup artist brought a light touch to the model's face to compliment without overpowering.Editing
Post processing was done in PhotoshopPhotoshop using frequency separation, then dodging and burning. I adjusted the colors Lightroom. As a portrait photographer, post processing is a vital part of the finish image. In my camera bag
I pack my trusty 50mm f/1.4 and my 85mm f/1.8. Prime lenses just make life easier. Depending on my plans I will take my 70-200mm f2.8, my Tonika 16-28mm f/2.8. Tripod for Landscape shots and Flashpoint XPLOR 600 or Flashpoint eVOLV 200 TTL for extra lighting on an outdoor shoot along with Canon 7D Mark ii or 5D Mark iv.Feedback
There are many inspiring images and great photographers out there but you don't have to copy, you can twist, tweak, reimagine and recreate a project into something that reflects your style. Again, I took the inspiration the model shown me and added my own elements to make the idea more attuned to my style. Take my advice, be inspired by the many greats on ViewBug but try to find ways to make anything you recreate into something that bring "your" art alive.
