Fog or haze are the only natural ways to actually see the air when it is not moving. Also, such scenes make us think of light "rays" instead of a succession of "layers" endlessly supplying the Earth with universal energy; the one and only available, whatever form it takes.

Location
This photo was made in the forests on Zumberak mountain range (Croatia), on one of my many weekend cruises through this incredibly beautiful area. Zumberak range spreads along the part of the border between Croatia and Slovenia.Time
Date/Time of the shot was 09-Nov-08 09:19:52Lighting
All of it: 1/40 sec, f/3.5, ISO 125, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode: Pattern, Flash Off, and F=9.77 mmEquipment
The camera was an OLYMPUS SP570UZ (prosumer), an excellent small camera that workeed perfectly - until some sand grain managed to lodge itself in the zooming mechanism and damage it. Since the repair expenditure would be higher than economical, the camera was retired to its box. Oh well...Inspiration
One does not need any special inspiration up there... the whole trip of every visit happened because of so many opportunities to shoot pretty views along the way. Weather permitting, I used to go there on my scooter too, as it was simpler to stop, park it anywhere and go make photos. The bike also made it easy to cruise some narrow forest paths. Since one such round from-to Zagreb is about 100 kilometers in all, it is an excellent way to spend one day in the mountains - together with a tasty lunch in one among the good restaurants along the return leg of the trip.Editing
Hard to remember now, but it did not take anything significant, bar the cropping...In my camera bag
For decades already I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag - and especially if you're traveling on a motor bike where it is all coverered with appropriate clothing. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually stay home or in the car to keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small photo clamp instead of a tripod. Sometimes I'll include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest has pockets for big lenses that can hold a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. I always add about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. With these, much can be "mcgyvered" along the way, so that's all I need. Recently I make it even more comfortable for me, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch; a variable-volume McKinley. Simplicity and comfort; two best qualities for the most situations!Feedback
"Travel light - go far"... and for maximum effect, keep your gear simple. Plan with a lot of spare time, e.g. do not go to such places with something time-fixed to do afterwards. That will only make you hurry and sway your concentration. A 100 kilometers trip through the mountains may not look like much, but it can be if you encounter some problems underway. Count with sudden weather changes and equip properly, especially if you ride a motorbike; mountains can offer such surprises in every season! Consult the forecast for the area, go early, ride slowly, and stop for every good photo scene (since it will never repeat). Dedicate your day strictly to enjoying and photographing. In the same evening, go through your "catch" while the impressions are fresh... That's it, in a nutshell! Enjoy!
