Thanks, they're extremely shy everywhere! This one made a navigational error and ended in our room - pure luck! :)

A beautiful but rare picture! The moments we experience in close encounters with wildlife are unfortuantely very few and shold be treasured! I am glad you were abole to get some great pictures to remember the special occasion! Kurt 😁

Well, thanks a lot! The first thing that I think when such an occasion occurs is "where's my camera" and I make it a point to always have one at hand.

Behind The Lens

Location

Shot at home after the bird made an error and flew into the room. He was lucky, and came out of the predicament alive and well, enriched with certain experience about photography... :)

Time

Date/Time of the shot is 27-May-15 10:53:25...

Lighting

The camera has chosen the Shutter Speed of 1/500 sec @ f/8 with ISO 100, zero exposure bias, Metering Mode: Pattern, the Flash Fired, and with Focal Length of 4.5 mm

Equipment

Olympus TG-2, which I will usually use for underwater photos was closest to hand, and thus got grabbed for the occasion :)

Inspiration

The straight inspiration came from the rare experience of a bird in the room, but its beauty was also a part of it. And it was also captured for only a few minutes and then set free to fly away unharmed.

Editing

Almost none. Can't really remember anything about post-processing this one, except reducement of the original to my usual upload size copy (1600px longer edge).

In my camera bag

To me it is easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small photo clamp instead of a tripod. Sometimes I'll include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest has large-lens pockets that holds a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. With these, much can be "mcgyvered" along the way, so that's all I need. Recently I make it even more comfortable for me, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch. Simplicity and comfort; two best ingredients in most situations!

What's to say? Catch gently, photograph, let go... :)))
