Location
The photo was shot on Sljeme, a mountain over Zagreb (Croatia) in the course of a test shoot with the model Modeste.Time
Date/Time of the original was November 16th, 2008 @ 14:04:42Lighting
All of it (non-repeatable, of course)... Shutter Speed: 1/160 sec, F-Number: f/4.4, ISO 125, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode: Pattern, Flash Off; Did not fire, and Focal Length: 39.82 mm. These data would be of some use if the photo was made in the studio, in front of some predictable background, shortly in measurable ambiental values. But since it was made outdoors and quite marginal to the actual shoot purpose, it is of no practical value.Equipment
I used OLYMPUS SP570UZ for this photo. An excellent, small and very able camera it was... while it worked. It developed an error in the zoom mechanism and it proved irrepairable (for the money) - and it was well-used anyway, so it was "retired with honors".Inspiration
Modeste is a kind of model whose face "the camera loves", and it was inspiration enough for the whole shoot - including such ones. :)Editing
Nothing bar the cropping was done... there was no need for any other correction. In my camera bag
For decades already I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. It is more than enough to take along whatever I want or need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually stay home or in the car, to keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The tripod has its permanent place in the car. My vest pockets usually contain two cameras. Regardless of which is the "main" camera, one of those is always some waterproof model, if the weather plays up or when I find something interesting in the shallows. Nowadays I usually use Nikon P900 or Sony RX100m7, and the waterproof backup is an Olympus TG-2 or a Paralenz DiveCam. Other vest pockets keep the spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small camera clamp which can be fixed to almost anything. In many cases this can replace a tripod. The vest has deep pockets for longer lenses, and these usually hold a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate - if I plan on being out for the whole day. I always pack about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. Much can be improvised with these if need be. Recently I made it even easier, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch; one variable-volume McKinley. In the Outdoors, simplicity and comfort are my most important requirements!Feedback
Use natural daylight as much as possible, that is, avoid artificial lighting when you can. If you must bring additional light to the scene, use reflected daylight again by means of reflective mirrors, or at least white surfaces - easy to improvise if need be! Above all else, establish relaxed and joyful circumstances; make your model relax and behave normally. This also means prior discussion about the purpose of the shoot and what you aim to accomplish - in other words, do not invent scenes or situations that were not discussed before, especially if your model is not ready to play along! Things like that can ruin the shooting atmosphere quickly. Be relaxed and friendly, so you both enjoy the session. This is the most important part! Good light!
