This venue is more remote than most would realise. There is emotion in his eyes, detail in his fur and still waters make for a perfect reflection. Well done for making the trek to this Nagano outpost and t come away with an example of DEPTH OF FIELD photography and sneak in RULE OF THIRDS with his well placed head.

This would be the most touching and soul searching shot I have ever seen. Congratulations.

Location
Jigokudani Monkey ParkTime
After barely making the tour bus from Nagano we walked 2km from the drop-off point to arrive at the end of the trail around midday. It was easy to just walk around not paying attention to the time, watching the monkeys interact with each other and the surrounding landscape.Lighting
It was a beautiful, partly cloudy day which helped add some shadows and a little contrast to the photo.Equipment
I didn't have a good long/zoom lens at the time so I had my 105mm Sigma macro lens on a Nikon D750.Inspiration
On the other side of the bath there were about 12 other photographers all getting the same angle. I didn't really want to join in and get in the way of other people so I just went to an open area. Doing this must have gotten the monkeys attention because it turned and looked at me a few times.Editing
There was a crop applied to the image. These days I prefer the uncropped version, though. I lightly used the dehaze slider in photoshop to remove some of the steam from the bath, and slightly tweaked the contrast, vibrance, shadows and clarity. In my camera bag
Nikon D750, Tamron 24-70mm, Tamron 70-200mm, Nisi filter kit, DJI Mavic Air.Feedback
Only advice I can give is just to go to these kinds of places.
