Wow! Amazing. Simply amazing. One day, I want to build an animal sanctuary, for abused animals. I rescued several cats , in my neighborhood. Tiger, came to me a skinny runt, at 6 months. With a lot oflo

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the Cincinnati Zoo, the top zoo in the United States. It's my happy place.

Time

It was taken in the 10am hour on a Saturday, 11/4/23. It was a warmer day for late fall, a nice break.

Lighting

In recent months I switched to manual photography at the zoo. On sunny days if on Auto, the lighting would be exaggerated. Manual is much more realistic to the naked eye and easier to control.

Equipment

The camera for this is a Sony A7R II, the lens a Tamron 150-500mm. No flash, tripod or other equipment, just me and my camera in hand.

Inspiration

Animals are simply amazing. This lion is John, and he is just so majestic, commands my attention. He is by far my favorite subject to photograph.

Editing

Small adjustments in Luminar Neo. A little brightening as it was overcast, then a slight crop.

In my camera bag

My A7R II and a host of lenses and accessories. Lenses: Tamron 150-500mm and 70-300mm, Laowa 90mm 2x macro, Viltrox 16mm, Sony 28-60mm. I also pack several batteries, cleaning supplies and the lens hoods.

Feedback

Be patient and appreciate the subject and situation. Remember, it's more about the animals than us, and we can't expect anything. With patience we are rewarded with beautiful, spontaneous nature in action.
