The fall colors just get more in depth and intense as the sun wanes in the sky. I don't know if it's what is really happening, or just me, but the colors are much more vivid this year... and the change does seem a little later in the season. That's OK... I just enjoy them whenever they appear.

Behind The Lens

Location

This is from a hike I made in the fall in the Wasatch Mountains.

Time

Sunset. Obviously.

Lighting

Shooting into the sun means the majority of the frame is in shadow- thats just how it works.

Equipment

Since I was hiking, I was a bit on the light side. I had a pod with me in the backpack, but I am pretty sure this was hand held. I am also sure I bracketed this. With auto align, that is no big deal with no tripod if you are quick. Wide angle lens with a small aperture for the sun star effect.

Inspiration

Here I fell in love with the massive amounts of color, and the deep saturation I found there. I loved the line the dead tree makes.

Editing

I set basic exposure color and contrast in Lr. I knew each image would form a different part of the final image, so I develope for that, not for the picture as a whole. I layer them in Ps, and blend using masks.

In my camera bag

This day, not a whole lot because I was hiking. Camera and wide angle, and a tripod.

Feedback

TO pull off a back lit image like this, you need to have some technical skill. This is not an easy image to pull off. But I would say to try because the only way you are gonna get a balanced final image is by experience, and learning what works and what does not...
