John- you are very kind- thank you for your kind words. I just see what I did and what I do.... what she did I cannot! :)

Don't hate me for this: this was a throw away image. I was teaching a workshop, and Kahlan (the dancer here) was the model. The problem was we had 3 Olympus shooters, a sony shooter, a couple of canon and a few nikon. So none of us could shoot with flash.... well, I could, but that would not have been fair. So Kahlan modeled, and the workshop shot. We used bolts of cloth for interest, and shot until about a half hour before sunset. While we rested waiting for sunset, Kahlan said to me that we should just knock out a shot on our own. I liked the break in the mountains to the north, positioned her there and said jump! I think we shot three or four images is all. Maybe a couple shots just to dial in the angle and the exposure. As I recall, I am laying on my stomach shooting almost straight up. We work together a lot, so we understand each other, and we have this way of working- can't explain it. All I know is that in four shots I knew we had it. She knew we had it. So we stopped and this ended up being in that set of images. When we turned around all the workshop people were staring at us. They could tell we just got something good, too. In fact, there is a good picture of me on the salt shooting this. I have such good memories surrounding this. It was just such fun, and seemed so natural.... like no effort at all. I was not under pressure to shoot something good- we had already done the workshop thing. This was just us having fun and doing what we love to do, and nailing it!Time
Just before sunset.... probably 7:30 or 8 PM. All natural lighting.Lighting
Sun was not quite down, but we got good reflection form the salt. Lucky the exposure worked out so well.... this is no flash.Equipment
Hand held on the ground, super wide angle 15mm.Inspiration
I do know I was after an exaggerated jump- that was why I was so low, and using such a wide lens. I wanted Kahlan top look like super woman!Editing
Minor color correction and contrast. As much as the blue looks fake or exaggerated, it is not- that is the skies we get her in summer. In my camera bag
Here I had everything- two complete camera gear bags. I had my FF and my crop. I shot this full frame.Feedback
Every image is important, either in it's own right, or as a stepping stone to an even better image. Never just shoot- shoot to be better, to improve.
