If you are lucky to spend winter months on some Adriatic isle, you'll probably also have a chance to eat the ripe opuntia fruit. These are real treat if you carefully remove tiny glassfiber-like bristles before peeling.
There is another way to eat the fruit, though. Remove the bristles by rubbing them off with thick wet rag, slice the fruit in half lengthwise, and scoop out the goodies with a spoon. Tastes nice and is loaded with C-vitamin, too.
