What a gorgeous sky. It seems like it's about to burst any moment and pour out in a storm.

Location
The photograph I presented was taken in Castelo Branco, Portugal, in an area very close to the A23 motorway, which links Guarda to Castelo Branco. It is a zone characterized by the orography variation of the terrain, in one part with miontanha and sierra and in another with the passage to Plains. In this place there are vast fields of cereal production and that present a huge extension. this particularity is perfect when there are trees on the horizon that provide a fantastic frame and can make use of fantastic techniques in photography, as the rule of thirds, rule that I used in the frame for this photograph.Time
The height of the day was favorable for obtaining good results (at least for me), it was late afternoon, but on that day there were rich and potential environmental and atmospheric factors for good light and color. In fact, the formation of clouds with some intensity, the creation of shading on the plain, as well as the light to the far bottom was fantastic. I decided to stop and take some photos, in total there were 10 images spaced of about 2 minutes, I could have done an overlay of images to create an abstract sky but I preferred to maintain the natural grandeur of the landscape and to work only one of the images. In the case was the last, but only one detail: the approach of the storm had lightning and it was in this that I managed to "freeze" one. Simply pure luck. But in photography, it matters as well, to capture the perfect moment or wait for it.Lighting
Light is and always has been the primordial element for a good photo, in some cases its almost absence is extremely effective to create dramatic images. In this case, the natural light associated with the natural tones of both the landscape and the colors in the sky were an extremely important factor in obtaining the image. Of course, in the post-processing the work allowed to create something even more superb and intense. On the other hand, the white balance was set to cloudy weather. thus allowing a color temperature with very yellow and orange tones.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7100 with the Tokina 11-16 lens. The ATX Model 11-16 2.8. Particularly, it is an interesting and very fast lens that gives quite satisfactory results. It is a lens that I have been using in landscape and architecture. Maybe switch to a nikkor when moving to full-frame. I also used a tripod and a remote shutter release. Its use allows when shooting landscape photos, pre-programming the focus, aperture, ISO, Etc, and then when you want, shoot. Maybe it was in this one of those tiny lightning flashes that I manually operated the remote shutter release. The lens had a polarizing filter on it, although in this case there were few greens but there was a restea of ??blue in the sky that intensified and crossed with the other colors.Inspiration
Daily we see imagen that travels the internet, fantastic works on diverse and varied subjects, many of them identical but with different visions. On the Viewbug site we see daily high quality landscape work and are based on them. I do not always have the opportunity to take pictures in beautiful places where I go, so I often explore photography indoors. Anyway I love the landscapes of Ansel Adams, perhaps because he is original in the handling of his cameras that I love so much and that I also collect and the fact that I also started in photography with old analog machines that are part of my collection. Many of the techniques I've learned, self-taught, derive from this taste for this great photographer.Editing
And now that theme that often creates contradiction, to sue or not? - For me yes!!! I fear that it may be misunderstood by purists of photography as an antagonistic response to the fact that I stated that I started with analog systems, but it is also true that in the analogue system, images were always processed in other ways and types of film with color that does not correspond to reality. The type of photography that we create is always dependent on our own artistic taste and always corresponds to a form of evolution that may have followers or people who criticize it in a negative way. In this case I processed and in order to create a dramatic landscape, as if we were feeling the heat, wind the sound of thunder, a meteorological change like the one I saw manifest, intensified colors, sharpness and tried to transmit it in the same photo. A processing by double layers, intensification of the central light and small vignetting, as well as the elimination of two small trees that in addition to being very small, in my view spoiled the framing of that majestic cork tree that was there..In my camera bag
Nikon D7100, Nikkor AF 50 1.8D lens, Nikkor 18-105 AF lens, Tokina ATX 11-16, Tokina ATX 80-200 2.8, Industar 2 f3.5, Helios 44m-2, coloured filter and a ND filter, polarized filters, remote trigger, etc.Feedback
Sometimes small things can bring big and outstanding works. Use your imagination. And, as possible, bing the camera with you. This image won several contest internationaly, featured in several magazines in UK and Portugal.
