Behind The Lens

Location

The image was taked in Portugal, in Vila Nova de Gaia. Chapel of Senhor da Pedra It was built on a rock by the sea in 1686. It is believed that the cult originated in the Stone Chapel Lord may have originated from an ancient pagan worship, naturalistic character of the pre-Christian peoples, whose deities were worshiped by nature, was subsequently converted to Christianity. The pilgrimage to Lord Stone is one of the most traditional both of Vila Nova de Gaia as the Gulpilhares parish. It takes place every year on the beaches of Senhor da Pedra, on Trinity Sunday, and extends until the following Tuesday.

Time

The week I took the photo, Portugal was razed by strong storms and high seas. The image was captured about 2 minutes before sunset. On that day, the storm slowed and I was able to get sunset images of the place, however there was some fog that is present in the image, creating a pastel color effect.

Lighting

The light is natural, the image was taken with the lens to make about 50º in relation to the sun and the exposure on sea water. As I mentioned, there was a mist created by the rippling water. This same fog created a change in the color that he intended to obtain, thus achieving a pastel hue.

Equipment

I used my nikon D7100 with my kit lens, the nikkor 18-105 at 18mm with a nd2 filter, on a tripod.

Inspiration

The Chapel of the "Lord of the Stone" is an emblematic place, there are multiple images of this place and as I was passing through, with my most common lens, I decided to take some pictures. I should go back to the same place but to take pictures at night.

Editing

Yes, normally i do post-processing. I think it´s very important do that because RAW files must be explored and they give a lot of information. On the other side, sometimes there are small error´s on the image, small dot´s of particles on the sensor, small dost and some elements that should not appear on the photo.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7100, Nikkor AF 50 1.8D lens, Nikkor 18-105 AF lens, industar 2 f3.5, Helios 44m-2, Sigma 10-20, macro bellows, reflector, tripod, colored filter and a ND filter´s.

Feedback

Sometimes small things can bring big and outstanding works. Use your imagination. And, as possible, bring the camera with you.
