Grand Jury Winner

"This image pulls me straight in with a powerful combination of colour, line and framing.  The palette works beautifully well, with a combination of greens, oranges, yellows and reds for accent.  The vertical pattern of tree lines is sliced with interest by the diagonal lines of light cascading across the forest.  And the tones are a perfect natural vignette of darker trees at the bottom, sides and top and a splash of light in the centre.  All of these design elements come together beautifully for an image that grabs my attention andin a matter of moments carries me away to this beautiful place.  I can almost smell the trees…" - Athena Carey

Runner Up

"This photo whisks me away to my childhood days of exploring in the forest.  If there were just a lab/setter mix dog beside her it would be like a flashback for me.  I like the tonal variation through the image, with the path ahead of her being lighter, signifying hope andadventure and the edges being darker reminding that the forrest can also be dangerous. Room for Improvement:  You could mask out the blur in the foreground of the path to visually invite viewers to follow her into the forrest." - Athena Carey

Runner Up

"The varying golden tones throughout this image give me an immediate sense of warmth and welcome.  With the darker trees at the edges and an opening of light through the centre of the image I feel as if I am being welcomed into the forrest.  The composition, tones and sharpness combine very well to balance between pure reality and a magical moodiness.  I’d almost not be surprised to see  a small fairy peek from around one of the trees. Room for Improvement:   A tiny bit more light on the forrest floor on our left hand side would balance the tones out nicely." - Athena Carey

Runner Up

"Centered compositions have to be done well to work, and this one most certainly does.  The composition is near symmetrical, with a beautiful balance of clouds and golden grasses on either side of the strong, lone tree in the centre.  In addition, the complimentary colours of blue and orange are beautifully balanced against each other. Room for Improvement - Your horizon is slightly arched.  It could be that this was the actual scene, but do be sure to do careful lens corrections in your RAW conversion." - Athena Carey
