An ancient meal modified through ages in thousand ways, but the one which still remains one of the popular Macedonian winter eatings. Several other countries around are proud of their "own" versions, as any kind of meat can be used with it.
Use the name chomlek (pron. choam-leck) to locate several recipes on the net and give them a try. You'll be glad you did!

Did you use white or red wine?

Red one, but depends on the wine. White might be just as good.

Behind The Lens

Location

This was photographed right at home, on top of the wood stove where it was "born". :)

Time

Photographed on November 20th, 2022 at 18:05:04... mainly the reason flash was used for this one, since the daylight would not reach this far... :)

Lighting

Here's everything about the shot: Shutter Speed 1/30 sec, f/2.8, ISO 200, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode: Pattern, Flash On (Fired), Focal Length 4.3 mm, White Balance set to Sunny.

Equipment

Nikon COOLPIX P900 was at hand, shot out of hand vertically downwards, from about 30 centimeters distance. No added gear.

Inspiration

This was my wife's first attempt to re-create this ancient Macedonian recipe, and it had to be documented. Needless to say, the meal was perfect so use the recipe (link to my Dropbox is in the Description). The meal is something you must try - both cooking and photographing).

Editing

There was not much to do in post-process, so I just cropped it tightly to square format (so as to highlight the pot contents).

In my camera bag

For decades already I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. It is more than enough to take along whatever I want or need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually stay home or in the car, to keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. My tripod has its permanent place in the car. The vest pockets usually contain two cameras. One of those is always waterproof. Sometimes I'll add a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. Other pockets keep the spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small camera clamp which can be fixed to almost anything. In many cases this can replace a tripod. The vest has deep pockets for longer lenses, and these usually hold a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate - if I plan on being out for the whole day. I always pack about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. Much can be improvised with these if need be. Recently I made it even easier, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch; one variable-volume McKinley. Outdoors, the simplicity and comfort are my most important aspects!

Feedback

I will always have the same advice(s), mainly to have a camera at hand at all times, and to try and develop the "photographic eye" which actually regards our World as possible photo frames. Today, let me add another thought: if you only photograph with a smartphone, try to obtain a camera - any proper camera! The difference is more than obvious - in favor of the camera.
