Gordian knot* is not the only popular one, seems like the electricians also joust with knots, loops and twists on a daily basis. Especially when trying to add some new improvisation to already existing ones!
* A knot tied by Gordius, king of Phrygia, believed to be capable of being untied only by the future ruler of Asia. But then it was "untied" by Alexander the Great when he cut through it with his sword.
Frank Herbert (in DUNE) writes: “Arrakis teaches the attitude of the knife - chopping off what's incomplete and saying, 'Now, it's complete because it's ended here."
So it seems there is always more than one solution.
