Behind The Lens

Location

It was shot from the beach in front of the house, as simply as can be!

Time

Photo date and time is recorded as 25-Jun-21 16:39:59 - an early afternoon swim in the warm Lake...

Lighting

As the Exif remembered, the Shutter Speed was 1/800 sec, f/6.5, ISO 100, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode: Pattern, No Flash, Focal Length: 247 mm,White Balance at Auto (Daylight) - all automatically chosen by the camera.

Equipment

Canon PowerShot SX70 HS, shot out of hand from the shore. Nothing else was used.

Inspiration

In a word, the overall atmosphere; nice ambient, beautiful face in beautiful water... it required no additional inspiration!

Editing

I might have cropped the shot somewhat, I don't remember... and not anything else needed to be done. The camera did a good job by itself!

In my camera bag

For decades already I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually stay home or in the car to keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small photo clamp instead of a tripod. Sometimes I'll include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest has pockets for big lenses that can hold a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. I always add about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. With these, much can be "mcgyvered" along the way, so that's all I need. Recently I make it even more comfortable for me, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch; a variable-volume McKinley. Simplicity and comfort; two best qualities for the most situations!

Feedback

Nowadays it is not difficult to have a camera near to hand at all times, since there are no smartphopnes without cameras, and no people without smartphones. Still, I prefer the real camera with real optics, able to reach far and to record quality photos at most of its focal lengths. Thus, smartphones might be good enough for majority... but for me, the camera still means what it meant all my life while everything else is, well, waiting to become as good. It is just my opinion, of course, so if you have a phone camera only, use it by all means! It all boils down to "always have a camera with you" - never mind which!
