This is sincerely intended to help those which can't read or do not understand what is required in VB Challenges and Contests.
I don't know how else to motivate folks to:
... read the complete title and additional explanation;
... invest some time to form an idea of what it's all about;
... upload relevant and adequate image, or
... having no adequate image, resist the temptation to submit just anything!
Yes, there are language barriers. But there are automatic translators, and there are ways to CONTACT the Contest - Challenge creator and ASK for more information!
For too many, it seems like too much effort...
... so they submit a WHOLE FIGURE where only a PORTRAIT was required...
... or enter an image of a SHADOW where asked for a SILHOUETTE...
... or upload a CAT photo being too lazy to google CATAMARAN...
... or submit a MONOCHROME to a BLACK & WHITE contest...
... or can't tell TRANSPARENT from REFLECTIONS...
... or can't distinguish NUDITY from PORN.
Hoping that just any entry may somehow win because it's there is funny. Photography is a communication that implies seeing -> understanding -> associating -> recording -> forming -> presenting -> statement.
This is more than the camera. It is speaking to the whole World in a way that is instantly understood. Much like music, only for the eyes.

Yes, there's sandbagging too, can't be helped. Winning is seemingly the most important to many, never mind the category and a total lack of any prize.
Maybe it's inspired in some way by Guinness Book Of Records, prevalently useless ones.
Or it simply reflects our times of competitiveness - regardless of any reason. It will take a lot of effort to make people understand that having a camera does not equal being a photographer; it also includes various kinds of literacy... ;)

OMG I agree, especially with the last statement. It's one of the reasons I stopped doing a lot of portraits.

Chrome meaning is color... and black or white is not it, mind!
Of course, one can be more liberal with words, but in essence black and white represent the universal contrasting to any and all colors, while in itself it is only a range of grays, from one extreme to the other.
In photographic sense, it is a colorless presentation (no filtering of light), whereas all color presentations are created by light spectral composition / filtering, one way or another, regardless of the sensitive principle used.

Well done with your example it covers the visual for those who don't have English as a language or are at the Homer level. Now, you need to create another cheat sheet to explain formats: Square, (1:1), landscape 6:4 or 8:10 or16:9 and all other common ones. Of course, phoneographs have ratios of their own. My editing programs even have a "No Restriction" crop - which needs further explanation. ;)

Thanks again. @geophotos, there's a lot of help available to those which want to learn... all they'd need is remember Wikipedia, Google Search... or plain ask someone for an[y] explanation. The problem is, with some the "want" is missing. :)
