Location
This was taken at Skógafoss in Iceland.Time
This picture was taken around 2:15 p.m. on the 31st of January, 2017. I was in Iceland for about 6 days and we haven't had good weather during our stay. It was mostly dark and rainy most of the time.Lighting
It has been very dull throughout my entire trip but as the saying goes, there's no such thing as bad light. Of course it would have been better to go there during the golden hour on a good day but that's not a luxury most of us can afford and you have to make do with whatever light available during your short trip. At least the thick cloud cover provided a constant diffused light.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark III on self-timer, EF 17-40mm f/4.0L USM, and a tripod. No other equipment were used.Inspiration
I was mesmerized with this place and was in awe. I could have spent my entire day there but I had places to go and people to see. Plus my friends probably would've gotten pretty mad had I stayed there any longer. Yet I did not want to leave the place without taking a keeper.Editing
Nothing major. A simple monochrome conversion with photoshop. In my camera bag
I now shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III. As for lenses, I have EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6L IS USM, EF 50mm f/1.8, EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro. Most of the time I try limit what I'm carrying with me now since I have learned the lesson that carrying all my gear is a trap. Depending on what I intend to shoot, I either carry my wide lens, the tele lens, or my macro. I use the 24-105mm as my walk-around lens.Feedback
It took me about an hour and a half to get this shot. Simply because there were so many people around, which is understandable. Who wouldn't want to be there. I had my tripod and camera setup waiting for a moment to take this shot. People were constantly walking in-front of the camera, which again is pretty normal. I finally managed to shoot this one after a while. I used to shoot landscapes for a while but all of them were lacking something. Then I noticed something about most of the pictures, from pros and amateurs, I really like. They all had something similar, a human element. Imagine how many pictures of this place have been taken already and how many people are taking pictures of this place everyday. What makes yours different than all the others? You have to add something of your own. So I decided to be in the picture as well, which turned out to be one of my favorite shots. Bottom line is that wait for the opportunity and add a human element to your pictures.
