Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken in Arugambay, Sri Lanka. Famous for being a great surfing location in the world.Time
Early morning, around 6ish. The fishing boats are just coming back to the shore. The sea is rough around that time of the year, but still these fishermen brave the waters.Lighting
Golden hour, although it wasn't so golden that morning. Still, the cloud cover provided some soft light.Equipment
This was shot with a DJI Mavic Pro built in camera.Inspiration
I was back in Sri Lanka for holidays and went to the eastern coast with some of my friends. Woke up early enough to see the sunrise and even though the sun wasn't planning on coming up, the beach was bustling with all these people. A shot from the air provided a unique perspective.Editing
Nothing other than few global adjustments with adobe camera RAW.In my camera bag
I try to carry either just one lens or maybe two at max now, instead of trying to cram everything into my bag. I shoot with a 5D MK III. My most frequently used lenses are 17-40mm f/4L, 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro, and the 70-300 f/4.0-5.6L IS USM. But sometimes I leave my heavier gear at home and pack my Mavic instead.Feedback
A drone provides very interesting perspectives. Obviously the image quality isn't par with my MK III but sometimes it's fun. It's always exciting and a little scary at the same time when you're flying a drone. There are quite a few things that can go wrong. The Mavic is a small drone, the main advantage is portability. At the same time, it's not built like these heavy commercial drones that have much higher payloads. So the wind can be an issue, especially at a beach. Never lose sight of your drone and don't try to fight the wind. If for some unfortunate reason the wind is too much, fly it as low as possible and then fly it towards you. If you lose control of the drone, it will start returning home on its own but if the wind is too much, it won't be able to. That would be very sad.
