Small snake was very interested in the white of my palm where he spent some time exploring. Having no prior bad experiences with people, he didn't mind me lift him out of the water for some close & personal photographing.
Nice people, my watersnakes! :)

Thanks... Yes, this was a one hand shot, and no, they don't show any kind of agression toward me... :)

Watersnake (Natrix tessellata) is not poisonous. If it bites, the worst you could expect is some local infection.

Location
The photo was shot just outside of the reed forest that lines the Lake Ohrid shore near our house. This is the area where I'm usually swimming and snorkeling almost every Summer day, and there is no swim without one or more encounters with my elegant snake friends! :)Time
Date/Time, quoth the Exif, is 01-Jul-12 14:02:06...Lighting
Here is what the camera has chosen: Shutter Speed: 1/320 sec, F-Number: f/8, ISO 80, Exposure Bias Value 0.00 eV, Metering Mode: Pattern, Flash: Auto, Did not fire, Focal Length: 6.2 mm, White Balance Details: AutoEquipment
Camera used was a Canon PowerShot D10, one-handed use. No added equipment was used.Inspiration
The same thing that inspires me to go swimming, snorkeling or diving in my Lake; the abundance of life, both in form and numbers would surely be everybody's inspirations. Plus the fact that no animal in there really fears me, a fact which I'm taking as a kind of huge compliment.Editing
The shot is 99% SOOC, except some slight cropping. In my camera bag
To water I usually take just one camera, keeping it simple and enjoyable. Otherwise I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small photo clamp instead of a tripod. Sometimes I'll include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest has large-lens pockets that holds a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. With these, much can be "mcgyvered" along the way, so that's all I need. Recently I make it even more comfortable for me, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch. Simplicity and comfort; two best ingredients in most situations!Feedback
Swim slowly, look around, and behave like you belong there. Soon the water dwellers will get used to you, and then you might get a chance to take some really unusual photos. If you show neither fear nor aggression, all animals will know that... then the rest is up to you! :)
