February seems to be coot season. Large flocks swim along the lake shores and occasionally merge. Then, on some unpredictable cue, such united flocks run-fly over the surface as if they're racing.
And suddenly the noise of hundreds of slapping pairs of feet and wings replaces the silence! Another funny thing, the "race" is always at 90 degrees to the direction of their former swimming.
So many things we don't understand... just observe...
