Let's just say that flying ranks among several activites that one gets addicted to right from the start... Pretty much like diving, mountaineering, sailing - and photography!

Behind The Lens

Location

The slopes of Mt. Galicica have some nice meadows where the wind would also be just right for taking off, and the paragliders use them as often as they can. Usually when someone takes off, their companions would drive to the pre-arranged place by the lake below, and wait - sometimes it's a long wait - because the air columns keep the fliers in the air for as long as they wish! This was one of such takeoff places.

Time

Date/Time of the photo is 09-Jun-12 14:45:44.

Lighting

Shutter Speed was 1/500 sec, F-Number f/8, ISO 64, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode Pattern, Flash Off, Did not fire, of course, and Focal Length was 17.1 mm. I wouldn't normally ever shoot against the direct Sunlight, but this was an exception...

Equipment

It was my Sony DSC-F828, the camera I still mourn... An out of hand shot.

Inspiration

Paragliders? An instant inspiration, and in all phases! :)

Editing

I did balance the colors somewhat, and have re-cropped the frame. That's all...

In my camera bag

To me it is easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small photo clamp instead of a tripod. Sometimes I'll include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest has large-lens pockets that holds a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. With these, much can be "mcgyvered" along the way, so that's all I need. Recently I make it even more comfortable for me, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch. Simplicity and comfort; two best ingredients in most situations!

Feedback

Contact the local club, ask where they fly, and simply be there! Use some camera with at least 8X zoom, because you will want to photograph all, from close-up scenes (preparing for takeoff) to the actual flights. Enjoy!
