Following the snake which swims just deep enough not to create a telltale wake. He's keeping his head above so as to be able to breathe. But his eyes will be above, then under, and sometimes half way through the surface, so he can control both of his worlds. Interestingly, snake's eyesight works equally well in the air and underwater, which is an optical wonder not given to humans.
