A most primeval anchor, cheap and practical on dry land and sea bottom! In the past, rocks with natural holes in them were built into small village piers, handy for tying the boats. Still a good idea, but nowadays home-made anchors use more advanced technology. Four pieces of concrete reinforcement wire rods are pushed into a 2' length of concrete-filled iron pipe, and then bent outwards to form the hooks. Production cost is very attractive, as such anchors are usually made from masonry leftovers.
