Location
I took this photo in a wonderful nature reserve in Portugal; Tapada de Mafra.Time
I can't realy remember the time of day very well... I took this photo under the filtered light of some trees in the forest, so there was little shadow on the ground.Lighting
This was a perfectly natural shot, the lighting was wonderful because of the trees which filtered the sunlight beautifully. No additional lighting was used.Equipment
I have a Lumix DMC-TZ60, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a camera...The best thing about this camera is that it has a good Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket.Inspiration
We drove a long way to visit a nature reserve and I had high hopes for some nice photos of game or birds. As allways things work out differently than you expect... No game in sight and that day was far too hot for birds to show. As I tried to take some photos of tiny flowers on the forest floor, I saw some ants running about like madmen! I tried to capture them but every time I took a photo the ant was gone and I had some wonderful tiny vegetation photographed... After a lot of tries and a very long time, I got the hang of it and managed to press the button just before another ant came by and as I got home ant opened my laptop to see the results, I saw to my surprise this little present...Editing
This was a natural shot, no post-processing was done, I only cropped the photo. I allways shoot a wider shot, to have a wider range of sharpness. In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand how it works first...Feedback
Patience and many tries are the only way to take a photo like this. Try to understand how the ants run about and anticipate to their movements... Keep your camera as low as possible and avoid any direct sunlight because it will ruin your macro, the ant will have too much contrast and will loose the detail. Take a lot of photos because it is quite difficult to take a good sharp photo of these fast running insects! And last but not least; take the photo from a little distance to have a wider range of sharpness. Crop the photo in different ways and choose the best one the next day, to have a fresh look at them!
