Thank you to all the photographers that shared their best photos showing macro & close-up shots in the Macro Masterpieces Photo Contest with chances to win a Prize Bundle and more!

A special thanks to our friend and professional photographer Ana V. Ramirez for her collaboration as a guest judge in this photo contest. Ana V. Ramirez is a Venezuelan-born photographer living and working in Denver, Colorado. Her work is inspired by her desire to be fully present in the moment; the practice of mindfulness combined with the meditative qualities of photography. She first became interested in photography in the late 90’s while building her floral design portfolio. That interest grew into a passion for seeing and documenting beautiful details that might otherwise go unnoticed. In 2013 Ramirez became one of eight photographers whose work was licensed by Pottery Barn for their wall art collection.

Grand Jury Winner

"I chose this photo as the winner because in its simplicity it's very powerful. I love the use of framing and color to divide the image and bring our attention to the subject. The curve of the petal and the one leg that is coming off of it make me wonder what might happen next. The yellow background and lighting make the spider, which for many of us could be scary, appear cute and fuzzy… and rather likable! Well done!" - Ana V. Ramirez

Amateur Winner

"This is a lovely modern version of a classic. Beautiful use of black and white, composition, and lighting. Nice details and depth of field, too. " - Ana V. Ramirez

Runner Up

"Fantastic use of light, depth of field and color to highlight the subjects. Interesting subjects, too, like something in a magical forest." - Ana V. Ramirez

Runner Up

"The point of view, cropping and depth of field are spot on. Not to mention the color palette!" - Ana V. Ramirez

Runner Up

"This is a great and less common macro subject and it’s beautifully executed. The focus point and composition and the fact that the angle of the leaf leads the eye back into the photo make it really engaging." - Ana V. Ramirez

Runner Up

"Not only is this photo very well done in terms of composition and framing, but the title adds humor and makes us humanize the subject. Really fun shot!" - Ana V. Ramirez

Runner Up

"This is impressive. Using a human hand gives us a sense of scale of how tiny this guy is and the capture, which was likely very challenging, is excellent. " - Ana V. Ramirez
