My father made me a wash stand from Kiaat wood years ago. As the wood age the color changes and the piece of furniture becomes even more beautiful with the added character. This photo explains true beauty in life! Beautiful photo Eelco.

Last year I took some photos of this old market vendor at an outdoor market In Malveira ( Portugal ) These photos where such a succes that I decided to go back this year to see if I could find him for another try. He was at exactly the same place, this time with his wife!Time
It was late in the morning, about 11.30. I knew the light would be best at this time of day.Lighting
The natural light was wonderful just like the year before, the late morning sun created deep and dark shadows with wonderful highlights.Equipment
I wanted to capture this old couple without disturbing the moment. I liked the loving moment of the wife helping her man who was probably suffering from dementia with his work, I took about 20 quick photo's without them noticing me, obviously without any extra equipment...Inspiration
Last year I took some photos of this old market vendor and it was such a succes that I decided to go back this year. I was so happy to find him again at exactly the same spot, this time with his wife! I got the impression he was suffering from dementia... He was still "running the business" allthough his wife was supporting him with a lot of patience. I was hiding behind a pile of potatoes, not to spoil the spontanious moment. It was a scene of love and compassion, sharing a whole life in just one click of the camera...The sun casted deep and dark shadows over them with beautiful highlights, wich added wonderfully to the drama of the scene. The tent cloth behind the loving couple was a great support as a background with lovely textures and fading shadows.Editing
Originally this was taken as a color photo but I decided to edit this one as a black and white photo just like the ones I shot the year before... I edited in Lightroom and tuned many details and light intensities. I also cropped the photo from a much larger original because I had decided to take the photo "from the hip" without seeing what I was doing.In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand how it works first...Feedback
If you want to take a candid photo you have to be creative... look for a place to hide behind or when there is nowhere to hide; take it "from the hip" while you look the other side, not to attrack the attention of your subject. I was hiding behind a pile of potatoes this time. I always feel a little uncomfortable photographing people I don't know, so I try to take candid photos to avoid the eye contact. Because you can't plan the framing, you always have to crop a blind shot, that's why you have to shoot a wider area then the result you want to achieve. The settings of your camera can be done by choosing another subject at the same distance and the same light intensity, nearby the subject you eventually want to shoot, if you're shooting from the hip ... Crop and edit the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
