Bora (bura, in Croatian) is a strong wind that hits the Adriatic from the northeast, when the mass of cold air drops down the steep mountain sides. In some places and seasons it can be risky to the traffic along the coastal road, as it strikes in unpredictable, forceful blows. Bora whips up a dense sea spray which is dangerous to people in small boats and especially to swimmers. Sea spray fills the lungs with water and makes breathing difficult up to two meters above the surface.
Bora brings clear weather, and does away with fog or haze, thus creating great visibility - which is best enjoyed from the shore. ;)
