The "light at the end of a tunnel" shines actually off the great big mirror used by some film-makers at that moment, but it helped bring light to those ancient cobblestones, polished by billions of steps... ;)

Behind The Lens

Location

I have shot this while officially visiting Rasa and Labin, two Istrian towns built in the coal-mining heyday. The occasion was my photo exhibition there, organized so that all money from sold photos would go to the local institution that takes care of children with cerebral palsy.

Time

Date/Time of the original is October 11th, 2008 @ 12:06:34

Lighting

Here is what the camera recorded: Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec, f/4, ISO 160, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode: Pattern, Flash Off, Focal Length 14.3 mm. It was actually pure daylight, plus added lighting off the filming sun mirror being applied at the end of the lane.

Equipment

My camera in these days was a SONY DSC-R1, an excellent allround model that I preferred for many assignments.

Inspiration

Visiting Labin would be reason enough! The small township is a place to be for all which like ancient atmosphere and exploring the cobblestone-covered streets. That was also my inspiration on the occasion.

Editing

The photo did not suffer from much post-processing. All I needed to do was a slight crop, re-aligning verticals to their proper positions, and that was all.

In my camera bag

To me it is easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small photo clamp instead of a tripod. Sometimes I'll include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest has large-lens pockets that holds a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. With these, much can be "mcgyvered" along the way, so that's all I need. Recently I make it even more comfortable for me, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch. Simplicity and comfort; two best ingredients in most situations!

Feedback

Visit the place! There is much to see, so just listen to that inner whisper tellling you what to look at! Actually, the small Croatian peninsula Istra is quite big in that respect. Anyone planning on going there, contact me for details and suggestions! :)
