Absolutely gorgeous photo and so unusual, which is always a delight. The purple of the crocus against the brown leaf litter is striking.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on one of my more or less regular photo excursions to Zumberak mountain, westward of Zagreb (Croatia).

Time

Sometime after 1300 hours.

Lighting

I only used the Sunlight in all its irreplaceable glory.

Equipment

I shot this beaut with my Minolta Dynax 7000i and 35-80mm Rokkor, from ground level. No flash. The film used was Fujichrome Sensia, which was my favorite (and thus regular) 100 ASA material.

Inspiration

Inspiration was instantly provoked by the wonderful light shining through the petals, and silhouetting the pistil. It was very visible, even from the distance, and no photographer would have been able to pass by such scene without taking a "memory" of it.

Editing

The slide frame was rather badly scanned, as I had no access to a quality scanner at a time. I did some slight, careful changes to its digital version, and in small increments: added a bit of saturation, partial sharpening to some image areas, and have cropped the image to its final form.

In my camera bag

I use a photo vest instead of the bag, since it has (awfully) many pockets that can be well organized. The total weight feels more symmetrical than the photo-bag; it's easier to carry, also to shield against rain or sea spray and the like. I will usually take along two cameras; the main one (whatever it is at the time), lenses, flash, remote timer/intervalometer, CPL and ND filters, spare batteries... The other camera is always some watertight model, which is meant as a backup... except when the weather turns bad! Then it becomes my main camera.

Feedback

What it takes is whatever camera you are using, plus proper motivation. In other words, one has to like being in the Outdoors, enjoying what happens in the Nature on all levels. There are wide vistas of landscapes and unique manifestations of climate. There are all the living and non-living forms and shapes that surround you. And there is a beautiful and always surprising world of wee things that we photograph in Macro. I never could just go shoot some specific themes. I might go hunt for fabulous landscapes, only to find myself stretched out and taking photos of some ants... er... antics! Thus, the advice is Be Ready For Anything And Everything.
