This one is the largest I have ever seen, showing separately Winter time in Arabic numerals, and Summer time in Roman numerals; also the line of Equinox. And it is pretty accurate... except at night, when Mother Nature winds it up for the next day. ;)

How wonderful to have captured this inanimate clock so perfectly. Love the humor about Mother Nature winding it up at night. Thanks very much for sharing.

Congratulations on your win with this very huge and complicated sun dial. Amazing!

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was made on "Sirok sokak" ("broadway") in Bitola, North Macedonia.

Time

Date/Time Original: 07-Nov-10 14:00:00

Lighting

Here it is: Shutter Speed 1/250 sec, f/6.3, ISO 64, Exposure Bias Value 0.00 eV, Metering Mode Pattern, Flash Off; Did not fire, Focal Length 26.8 mm... shot on a beautiful day, out of hand.

Equipment

Sony DSC-F828, shot out of hand with no other equipment.

Inspiration

Inspiration that the authors of the sundial have had was probably also what had motivated me to shoot the photo. It's not every day that you see the whole facade turned into something nice and also useful! :)

Editing

The photo was only cropped a little, nothing else was required!

In my camera bag

To me it is easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small photo clamp instead of a tripod. Sometimes I'll include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest has large-lens pockets that holds a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. With these, much can be "mcgyvered" along the way, so that's all I need. Recently I make it even more comfortable for me, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch. Simplicity and comfort; two best ingredients in most situations!
