This is a magnificent insect and also photograph. The millipede, a very "useful" and beautiful insect.

Thanks for the Challenge win... Always feels nice to have one's work appreciated!
Funny how in some languages these are called "centipedes" (hundred-footer) and in other it will be a "millipede" (thousand-footer) - like in German, "Tausendfuessler", etc.
Wow, it's ten times more... I think I'll have to catch one and actually count the legs! :)

Behind The Lens

Location

These centipedes are literally everywhere, an this one was walking (is it what all these feet are doing?) on the home terrace.

Time

Date/Time of the photo: 02-Apr-14 17:28:03

Lighting

Purely automatically chosen, the camera used: Shutter Speed 1/125 s, f/2.3, ISO 125, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode: Pattern, Flash Off, and Focal Length of 5.5 mm. It was obviously well chosen!

Equipment

Olympus Tough TG-2 was at hand for this photo.

Inspiration

I guess it was the colors and their train-like movement, so inspirative enough for some macro shots.

Editing

In Olympus "microscope mode" the small beings that are not too speedy can be easy to photograph. This was an out-of-hand shot with no further requirements, meaning "straight out of camera". Among the several shots I took, this one seemed to have an appropriate layout.

In my camera bag

To me it is easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip. My photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one small photo clamp instead of a tripod. Sometimes I'll include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest has large-lens pockets that holds a small water bottle, a sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. With these, much can be "mcgyvered" along the way, so that's all I need. Recently I make it even more comfortable for me, and take the essentials along in a waist pouch. Simplicity and comfort; two best ingredients in most situations!

Feedback

Even when you plan on photographing the landscapes, rest assured that you will also notice some shot-worthy macros or closeups! Be ready for those too because, while the landscapes may be there tomorrow, the small interesting scenes might not!
