Thanks, folks. I learned this from Lord Snowdon's photography, decades ago. He used to apply flash to the foreground in low light, somewhat like an independent spotlight. The exposure was set for ambiental light and the flash was set at 1/4 power and its output not TTL measured (calculated separately). Try it sometimes! ;)
