You can sensationally renew some old flashlight - merely by replacing the old bulb with the new LEDs. Interestingly, the light output area, field of covering, and focus uniformity with the same mirror will be a lot better than with the old Philips bulbs of yore.

For instance, this old Maglite greatly profited from said modification. Its light output is now at least twice as effective, and the batteries last a lot longer too.

Luckily the internet is choc-full of LED lightsources easily acquired for small money. Just type "maglite led conversion" in your browser, and then choose the correct mounting type and adequate volts and watts.
