Location
I made this shot in Nortern Osetia, natural park Alania during my expedition over Caucasus. This pace is one of my favorite and at the same time one of the most dangerous places in Osetia - plateau under the Gebi pass. Road leading to the pass is difficult but the place is worth it as there is one of the largest rosebay fieldsTime
This shot was made in the morning. I was waiting for the sun to rise above mountains and light rosebay flowers through thick clouds. But the image made without light on the foreground was much more interesting to my likingLighting
The main problem with this image were thick low clouds and mist covering the sun on the sunrise. But the sun did another job lighting low clouds and the foreground without light and low contrast was greatEquipment
I used mu Nikon D810 and AF-S Nikkor 24-70 f/2,8 and Gitzo Explorer tripodInspiration
The view itself was too inspiring not to take this pictureEditing
Here I did some high level of postprocessing to boost contrast on the foreground and adding some subtle warm light to the cloudsIn my camera bag
Normally for this kind of shooting I use two cameras - Nikon D810 and D700 as a spare. I shoot with the set of Nikkor lenses 24-70 f/2.8, 14-24 f/2.8 and 80-200 f/2.8. I also carry a sturdy Gitzo tripod as no good sunrise or sunset landscapes could be done without itFeedback
Try to explore and reach difficult locations no one has ever seen before. This would be difficult as there would be no good roads car can pass, hotels or even shelters. But at most times the result would be very much worth the effort
