Grand Jury Winner

"This scene features a type of light that is both rare and wonderful, low storm clouds parting to allow in a flood of light in some areas with soft diffusion in others. As the light rakes across the landscape, it brings to life the colors of the lake and the surrounding autumn foliage. The steely colors of the sky act as a dramatic foil for the warm hues below, helping to set them off without competing visually. The elegant, restrained post-processing of this photo achieves a beautiful evenness of tones and harmony of hues while also emphasizing the sweeping flow of the composition that transitions the eye back to the snow-capped peak in the distance." - Erin Babnik

Runner Up

"The emphatic colors of this image provide a visually arresting display that invites the viewer into an exuberant fantasy world. The striking contrast of the vibrant blue lake pulls the eye in towards the nearby peak, while the lines of the clouds and receding forms of the foreground flowers aid in directing attention to that area." - Erin Babnik

Runner Up

"The stately forms of the rock are set off beautifully by the expressive sky and warm sidelight. The scene is a feast of textures, and the stark contrasts of tones and hues help to lend a pleasing complexity that enlivens the simple composition." - Erin Babnik

Honorary Mention

"The dramatic steam billowing out from the lava’s point of entry into the ocean forms impressive concentric forms in the top half of the photo. These forms and the light glinting off of the water provide a terrific sense of framing, helping to contain eye movement and to allow the drama of the illuminated steam to carry the scene." - Erin Babnik
