This one started as an icon (.ICO file) sized 32 x 32 pixels, dating from the times of Windows 3.1 when things were measured in KBs rather than MBs and GBs of today!
I added this icon to the lower left corner so you can see what it originally looked like. First it was converted to WMF so as to enable vector resize while retaining sharpness.
Resized to 2000 x 2000 px, it was turned into JPG and pasted over purposefully blurred background. Each of the icon's four colors was separately selected and re-colored (applying some convolution effect to avoid "flat" appearance). Finally a grid was layered over to simulate a glass pattern, also to break down still hugely oversized "pixels".
And why all this? For fun! :)
