After their ritual run(s) the coots take five, to wash, re-ruffle their feathers and flex the wings and feet. Maybe they also pick partners for their next runfly round - impossible to determine.
But soon they'll be up and running over the surface again, raising 50 meters wide field of foam, and the sound will be as if some giant is pouring tons of shingle into the lake!
