I found this wonderful cute, young seal on a beach of one of the Dutch isles, called Vlieland.Time
It was late in the morning when I spotted this young, lost seal in the distance. I started to take photos from afar and slowly tried to come closer. It was far easier then I thought, because the young seal was very tired and trusted me completely to help her. I could come as close to her as possible and took many lovely photos.Lighting
The sun was slightly covered by thin clouds, I waited until the sun had the right intensity and took many shots close up to be able to choose the best light intensity.Equipment
I have a Lumix DMC-TZ60, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a camera...The best thing about this camera is that it has a good Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket.Inspiration
When I saw the young seal in the distance, I wanted to try to come close to her to take some nice close ups. As I was approaching her, she didn't try to flee but seemed to ask for my help... she was lost and too young to look after herself. As I was taking pictures, my wife called the seal rescue center so help was underway. The young seal was taken to a special seal care center to recover and some months later she was ready to be send of into the wild, healthy and strong!Editing
This was a natural shot, no post-processing was done, I only cropped the photo. I allways shoot a wider shot, to have a wider range of sharpness and more possibilities to choose a nice cropping. In my camera bag
I don't have a bag of equipment at all, only my Lumix DMC-TZ60, a wonderful intelligent automatic pocketcamera wich practically fits in my backpocket. It shows that you do not have to use expensive and big cameras to achieve nice results...Feedback
If you want to take a picture like this, you only have to be there at the right moment... this photo was just a matter of luck! Look around you and see the wonder of life on earth. When you are taking a photo of a subject on the ground, allways go down to a lower level. I was kneeling down to be able to shoot a photo from a low angle, it looks more natural and creates more perspective in your photo. Never disturb the animals and respect their habitat! I allways look at the reaction of the animal I try to photograph, the moment she shows fear, I back of and leave her in peace. In this case I could help her by reporting the find of a young animal in need and she could be saved.
