Prior to a 6 day High Sierra Trip I got up at dawn to shoot various sights around Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park. Tenaya Lake has so many different features to photograph but I chose to pick out details with my 150-600mm (35mm equivalent) lens.

This is Tenaya Lake, in Yosemite National Park, in the Tuolumne Meadows region.Time
This was taken just after sunrise when all the thousands of campers were still in their tents!Lighting
The first magic hour of light!Equipment
I used an Olympus E-M5, with an Olympus 75-300mm lens, and all this was mounted on my Manfrotto 190CX carbon fiber tripod. Because my wife and I were going on a six-day mule trip in the backcountry; size and weight are big areas of concern. I brought with me the Olympus E-M5 body, Panasonic 7-14mm lens, Olympus 12-50mm, and Olympus 75-300. My wife brought her Olympus E-PL1 and the Olympus 14-150mm lens.Inspiration
Anyone who has ever enjoyed black and white landscapes has a calling to Yosemite. Most keep their shooting to Yosemite Valley, but I like to go into the high country. The Tuolumne Meadows area is stunning. My wife and I were about to jump on some mules for a six-day backcountry trip so I left camp before breakfast to photograph the Lake.Editing
Lots. A rather flat-lit morning, so I used my old-film-days darkroom skills to paint the scene in PhotoshopCC to bring out the tones I saw that morning and also to enhance the depth of the photograph. I rarely use a black and white plug-in; very very rarely. In my camera bag
Now days I carry an Olympus E-M1 (mark I), Olympus 7-14 2.8 PRO, Olympus 12-40 2.8 PRO, Pan-Leica 25mm 1.4, Olympus 45mm1.8, Olympus 60mm 2.8 Macro and Olympus 75-300 (mark II); plus a bunch of accessories and a Dell M3800 laptop workstation. Yes, all of that goes into a 16" X 11" x 10" Case logic camera bag!Feedback
Get up early (before the sun rises) and return later (just before the sun sets)!
