Thank you to all the photographers that shared their best black and white photos of trees in the Black and White Trees photo contest with chances to win a Sony camera and more!

A special thanks to our friend and professional photographer Alexander S. Kunz for his collaboration as a guest judge in this photo contest. "My name is Alexander S. Kunz (that’s German and pronounced like “Koontz”, except that the double-o is short). I was born in Germany in 1971 and grew up in Bavaria for the most part, in a landscape full of rivers, pastures, lakes and mountains. I now live in San Diego, California, close to the ocean, the desert, the peninsular ranges of the Pacific Crest, and the rolling hills in between. I am a self-taught photographer, and also the photography assistant to my wife, as well as the “second shooter” and administrator of our photography business “Daylight Colors” (where my wife and I do portrait & event photography). I am also a real estate photographer, active in the northern inland areas of the county for the most part"

"A beautiful photograph. Strong composition - the shadow draws me in immediately, to the stark shape of the dead tree with the sun above. There's a great flow in the image, look at how the lines on the hill in the background almost act as extensions to the sun's rays, and then continue in the tree's shadow as well. The background and surroundings provide good context, and help further the expression of this arid and desolate landscape. Excellent control of exposure with the sun in the frame. Very well seen and done. Congratulations!" - Alexander S. Kunz

Runner Up

"Wonderful tones and depth in this photograph. The tree immediately catches the eye of course, before it wanders off to the background, where an astonishing landscape disappears in gentle haze. The immediate foreground helps to put things in context, and understand just how precariously this tree is perched on that ledge. Nice work with the contrast in the frame as well, embracing the bright haze in the highlights and deep shadows in the foreground. Well done, congratulations!" - Alexander S. Kunz

Runner Up

"A photo with lovely softness and beautiful tones. I like how the photographer captured and preserved the elegant and chaotic array of the bare tree's branches and twigs - it adds an element of fragility that we would not necessarily and immediately associate with mature trees. The structure on the right provides an interesting counterpoint to the natural beauty, and the trees further back in the distance add great depth. Beautiful, congratulations." - Alexander S. Kunz
