Behind The Lens

Location

I was preparing a barbeque for my family and friends when I saw this daisy just beside my feet... I had a piece of slate to hide the fire from the wind and I saw the possibility to join the two together.

Time

It was about 18 pm and the sun was hiding behind the big tree of our neighbours.

Lighting

Because the sun was hiding behind our neighbours big tree I could easily make a nice photo without any extra efforts to get the good light. The tree filtered the light wonderfully!

Equipment

I have a Lumix DMC-TZ60, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a camera...The best thing about this camera is that it has a good Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket.

Inspiration

I was preparing a barbeque for my family and some friends when I saw this wonderful daisy with just one little petal left... It reminded me of the game I played when I was madly in love for the first time, she loves me, she doesn't love me... and she did! I was struggling with a piece of slate to protect the fire against the wind when I saw the possibility to use the slate as a background for the little daisy. The rest was easy, but the meat got burned.

Editing

I didn't do any post-processing except for the cropping of the photo, wich I allways do.

In my camera bag

The only equipment in my bag is a need for finding beauty in this wonderful world and my little Lumix...

Feedback

For me capturing nice shots is a matter of trying to isolate nice subjects without forgetting the whole picture... The choice of a background is very important to put the subject in a context or to make it stand out better. In this case I tried to create a dreamy background because I wanted to focus all attention on the concept of the game we used to play when we were kids: "she loves me, she doesn't love me" by picking the petals one by one. Look around you and see that everywhere around you beauty can be found if you are willing to see it! I love to take spontanious photo's as I am walking through life in all it's wonderful aspects and little big wonders. And last but not least, I allways crop my photos in different ways to create and choose a nice composition, in this case within the rule of thirds.
