Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while exploring the tropical gardens at the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis, Missouri. I had gone into an area where most visitors do not explore, He was just hanging out on one of the tropical leaves

Time

This photo was taken in the morning. The sun was behind a thin layer of clouds.

Lighting

The tropical gardens are located in a glass geodesic dome which allows the light to accent plants in the lower part of the garden though out the day. I liked how the shadows of the other plants added an additional layer to the leaf.

Equipment

This is a hand held shot I took using my Nikon P900 camera.

Inspiration

I found it interesting how the gecko could hold on to the leaf that was at a 45 degree angle. He seamed to be content to be in the sunshine.

Editing

The Nikon P900 saves photos in JPEG. I use Lightroom to do my post processing. I cropped the photo to make the gecko the center of attention and set the white & black balance points. I also adjusted the highlights and shadow to bring out more of the details.

In my camera bag

I carry with me my Nikon P510 & P900 cameras with which I can easily take macro to telescopic photos. I carry two 8 x10 pieces of foam board. One is black and one is white on one side and aluminum foil attached to the other to affect the lighting. I take my tripod and my case containing my adapter and UV, CPL, FLD and Neutral Density Filters.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to go off the standard path. You never know what is just around the next turn. Keep your camera ready to take a shot.
