I took this photo during photography workshop the Ukumehame Beach Park on Maui. We were working on long exposure photography.Time
We had been working most of the afternoon and I got this shot just before sunset.Lighting
A line of showers had just moved through so the light was soft and the clouds made for a great background.Equipment
I took this photo using my Nikon P900 camera, which had a Tiffen 1.2 Neural Density filter attached. The camera was stabilized on a Manfrotto tripod and I used an infrared wireless shutter release.Inspiration
I love old trees and driftwood. The light of the setting sun on the wood and the line of clouds off in the distance set the sceneEditing
I do my post processing in Lightroom. For this photo I set the White and Black points. Balanced the highlights, shadows and increased the contrast.In my camera bag
I carry with me my Nikon P510 and P900 cameras with which I can easily take macro to telescopic photos. I carry two 8 x10 pieces of foam board. One is black and one is white on one side and aluminum foil attached to the other to affect the lighting. I take my tripod and my case containing my adapter and UV, CPL, FLD , Polarizing and Neutral Density Filters.Feedback
Take your time and don't be afraid to make changes to your camera settings until you get the photo you can see in your minds eye.
