Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Ukumehame Beach Park on the island of Maui. I love to explore the island to find different places to photograph sunset. All of the driftwood framed the sun seting off the tip of Lanai adding depth and interest to the photo.

Time

Hawaii is known for it's spectacular sunsets and this is one of my favorite photos. The glow on the water and the beach was wonderful. I took this photo on February 16, 2009 at 6:21 PM.

Lighting

This was take in natural light, A line of rain had moved through earlier in the day leaving clouds of in the distance. I loved how the clouds started to glow as the sun dipped below the horizon

Equipment

This is a hand held shot using a Kodak Z612 camera. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

Ukumehame Beach Park is well known as a spot for viewing beautiful sunsets. I was able to walk around checking different settings on the beach when I came across the driftwood to use in framing the photo.

Editing

I do my post-processing in Lightroom. For this photos I reduced the shadows bringing out the driftwood and increased the vibrance slightly.

In my camera bag

I carry my Nikon P510 & P900, A set of filters including circular polarizing, neutral density, and a Manfrotto tripod.
