Great shot! Wonderful perspective. Where were you standing to take this photo at that angle of view. I have gone there many times but never captured the mill from this angle. Terrific!

Amazing photo. What part of WA. I’m in Spokane. I love to see that in person.

It's not far off off I-5 in Woodland Washington. put cedar grist mill in maps and it should show you location. I love shooting there, it can be bust with photographers on some days :)

Behind The Lens

Location
I shot this at the Grist Mill in Woodland Washington. Traveling through to shoot spring colors, I had visited before but was hoping for the right conditions and colors to be ablaze, and they were. This was shot in HDR and if I remember correctly in three sections shooting from top to bottom, for a total of 9 shots that were processed into the final image.
Time
I shot in mid afternoon, as weather changed from foggy and rain, to sunshine.
Lighting
Lighting is all natural light, diffused by the low clouds that set in off and on through the day.
Equipment
This image was shot with Canon 5D Mark IV using the Canon 24-70 USM II lens on a tripod. f/16 - 4 seconds at ISO 50
Inspiration
I had seen other images of this iconic location and only hoped to come up with an image that rivaled what I had seen. I was fortunate that I arrived at a time before wind and rain stripped the trees of all the fall color which can happen pretty rapidly in the wet NW. I climbed down the bank to shoot very low in order to create a composition I had not seen captured before.
Editing
Each of the three sections shot was processed for HDR, then processed as a panorama all together. I then processed color and clarity in Lightroom and Photoshop
In my camera bag
Pretty much what I used, I also have a mirror-less Fuji X-T30 thanks to Viewbug, that I love using for it's size and quality.
Feedback
Be patient when shooting a scene like this. When you can't be back as far as you would need to to get the entire subject in frame, you'll need to do as I did and shoot in sections it can be frustrating. Always account for the space that you will need to crop out. I shot this using a full frame sensor and somewhat wide lens (24mm) and even then it was difficult to line up (in my head) the three sections that I would be compiling for the final image. Shoot this way a lot and it becomes easier and a great sense of accomplishment when it all comes together in post.
