This reminds me of the tendrils of a plant unfurling. Fantastic composition. Again you have a great eye to be able to see this!

I took this photo in "the old church, de oude kerk" in the red light district of Amsterdam, Holland.Time
It was about 2 pm, the staircase was inside the church and the light at the end of the spiral curve came from the windows at the top of the tower.Lighting
I didn't use any additional lighting because the only light there was came from the windows at the top of the tower and I like very much the natural idea of the shot.Equipment
This photo was taken by hand with no equipment at all, only me, my Lumix pocket camera and the staircase itself...Inspiration
Usually photographers take a photo of a spiral staircase from the top down... I choose to take this one from the bottom up, wich gave a totally different, more abstract view and I am still very glad with the result! Another nice aspect of taking the photo from the bottom up was that the curved sideboards where nicely cut by hand in the 16th century and are very decorative to shoot! And finally the light at the top of the staircaise was too wonderful to ignore...Editing
Originally I took this photo in color but I turned it into Black and White and enhanced some of the details in Lightroom. I don't do much editing because I prefer natural looking photos.In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand how it works first...Feedback
To capture an image like this is very simple, just look around you and be bewondered about the beautiful world we are living in. When I walk through a church or anywhere else, I allways look around me very carefully to see the details of which the world around me is build up. I try to look through a pinhole, without forgetting the whole picture. In this case I was impressed by the architectural beauty of this old piece of wonderful craftsmanship and I wanted to take a powerful and original photo to express my feelings. Most staircase photos are taken from the top side down but I wanted take this one from the bottom side up to create a more abstract photo with a totally different angle of light. I had to lay down on my back to get as much of the spiral curve in my shot. I was very pleased with the light coming from the tower windows at the top of the spiral, the cherry on the cake. If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realise what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition... And most of all, take more shots with slightly different settings so you can choose the best one, once you get home and open your laptop, the magic of today's world begins... I allways crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
